About this site

The Smithsonian 3D Collection is a sample database of ten highlights from the Smithsonian Institution's 3D digitization program, published under Smithsonian Open Access (CC0) and enriched here with Japanese metadata for search and browsing. It serves as a testbed for archivebase's 3D support (GLB rendering via <model-viewer>).

The selection includes the 1903 Wright Flyer, the interior of the Apollo 11 command module Columbia, the Triceratops "Hatcher," and the sixth-century "Cosmic Buddha," drawn from the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of Asian Art, and other Smithsonian museums.

How the data is organized

  • Every item carries its title and description in both Japanese and English, with facets for object type, museum, and date. Full-text search works in Japanese (e.g. 「アポロ」, 「恐竜」, 「仏」).
  • No 3D models (GLB) are hosted here. Items reference the Smithsonian 3D Digitization delivery URLs (3d-api.si.edu) directly, rendered in the browser with model-viewer.
  • The Japanese metadata and descriptions are translations/summaries based on the Smithsonian's published metadata.
